YOGIC DIET
Detox and fasting
Fasting is nature’s healing agent. A fast gives the digestive system a rest, eliminates toxins and rejuvenates the entire body. Physically, it gives nature a chance to clean the system and give it a complete overhaul. Mentally, a fast develops concentration, strengthens the willpower and helps to release negative emotions. Thought processes slow down, resulting in clarity of mind.We will be fasting on carrot juice and vegetable broth – a gentle way to help your body detoxify. The fast will be combined with the practice of kriyas, classical cleansing techniques to further purify the body. Yoga and meditation are an important aspect of the detox and fasting day.

The yogic diet is based on fresh, light, nutritional food bringing harmony and vitality to both body and mind. Pure ingredients such as grains, vegetables, pulses, fruits and nuts produce an abundance of energy. They also leave a positive imprint on the mind, nourish our thought processes and shape our emotions.
According to Ayurveda, each person will be influenced by certain elements more than others. This is because of their prakriti, or natural constitution. Ayurveda categorizes the different constitutions into three different doshas: Vata dosha, in which the air and space elements dominate, Pitta dosha, in which the fire element dominates and Kapha dosha, in which the earth and water elements dominate.
Just as you want to focus on eating light vegetarian foods, avoid the heavy ones. Fried, oily and non-vegetarian foods will make your meditation practice much harder, because these foods take a long time to digest and that same energy could have been used for your meditation. Oily, meaty meals also make you tired, turning your meditation into a long and deep nap!
Ayurveda dates back more than 5,000 years ago and is believed to be the most ancient medical system in the world. By cultivating a balanced way of living in physical and mental harmony with nature, we can attend to the root cause of imbalances.
As a practice, it is beneficial to drink two liters of water a day. If you do not like water, add a bit of fruit juice to your glass, but avoid carbonated beverages! Listen to your body and drink only when you are thirsty. Too much water in one sitting may cause discomfort and make more work for the kidneys. It is also recommended to drink slowly, sip while sitting down, and not to drink water during meals
Ayurveda as a healing science gives much importance to proper nutrition. With an individualised approach to nutrition, we learn to eat what is right for our body type, digestion is facilitated, our constitution balanced and our overall health and well-being enhanced.
Ayurveda is a source of profound knowledge for improving and maintaining good health, curing disease and increasing longevity.
